Takashima Chizimi

"Takashima Chizimi" - a traditional textile that has been produced since Edo Period - which tradition has been handed down until today without interruption. What are called as chizimi are those textiles consisting of warp and woof which woof are strongly twisted so that shibo (odd shapes) are produced on their cloth surface. Takashima Senkotsu (Frame of Japanese Fan)

"Senkotsu (Fan Frame)" literally refers to the frame parts of a Japanese fan (the parts other than paper). In Edo Period, they used to plant genuine bamboos on the soil bank in order to prevent Ado River from flooding. Takashima Senkotsu is what they began to make using these bamboos about 300 years ago. Currently, Takashima City accounts for about as much as 90% of the total production of fan frames nationwide. While many of completed products are distributed as "Kyo Sensu (Japanese Fan)" after being pasted by base paper in Kyoto, their commercialization is progressing as "Ohmi Sensu" with being pasted by original base paper within the city.

Unpei-Fude (Ink Brush)

This product originates in the years of Genna during Edo Period when the first family member named Unpei Fujino started making writing brushes in Kyoto. Unpei-Fude is actually what is called as "Maki-Fude" originating in the Tang dynasty of China. Unpei-Fude is the only one that still employs a burdensome producing process where Japanese paper is wrapped around its waist part. This product enjoys firm popularity among calligraphers as one of the best ink brushes because of its strong waist part and rich springiness - a traditional collector's item.
