In the first year of the Shogen era (1259), heavy rains accompanied by an earthquake caused flooding, and when the shrine was flooded, a giant catfish appeared and the priest defeated it, and the rains immediately stopped and the sun came out. In the third year of the Seiho era (1646), there was little rainfall and an abnormal number of pests in the crops. In distress, people prayed for the pests to be eradicated, and a catfish appeared and ate them up. The villagers are said to have joyfully held a festival and performed Noh music before the gods. There is a large stone catfish sculpture in the shrine grounds. There are also catfish votive plaques and disaster prevention amulets. The Catfish Festival, held every year in mid-June, is well worth a visit.
