Regarding use of photos

There are two giant camellia trees on the grounds of the Shirataniso Historical and Folklore Museum. They are the "married couple camellia" that have a legend connected to Mori Ogai's novel "Sansho Dayu." Both trees are estimated to be 2 to 2.6 years old, with trunks measuring 1.6m and 500m. They are called the "married couple camellia" because they resemble a man and woman embracing each other. The best time to see the flowers is usually mid-April.

[2017.10.25] The "Shiratani Couple Camellia" has been registered as an excellent old tree certified by the Japan Camellia Association.
[2019.03.20] The paired camellia trees of Shiratani have been designated as a natural monument of Takashima City.
