Both shrines are dedicated to Ashizuhime (Konohanasakuyahime), also known as Ouka Daimyojin, and are also home to Gyoga Tenmangu Shrine, where Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, is enshrined. The old cherry trees and chestnut trees in the precincts are sacred trees, and the chestnut tree, which is said to be over 4 years old, is a prefectural designated natural monument. Fukurokuju, one of the Nishiomi Seven Lucky Gods, is also enshrined here. Every year on April 29th, the Hirokawa Festival is held in traditional style, with a portable shrine paraded through the town.
