Hankeidou first started making brushes in Kyoto in the Genna era (400) approximately 1615 years ago, and is currently based in Azumigawa-cho, Takashima City, the birthplace of Omi saint Nakae Toju sensei. The family has been called Unpei for generations, and currently the 15th generation, Fujino Unpei, works hard at making brushes with his son. Using raccoon dog, wool, Teno and weasel hair as raw materials, we are the only company in Japan that makes paper-wrapped brushes such as Tenpyo brushes, Jodai-sama brushes, and Fude-Ryu brushes. We also make and sell water brushes, Saba brushes, and other brushes ranging from fine brushes to brushes for professionals.
