Approximately 2.4 metasequoia trees are planted along the 500 km long Koarajiro Makinosawa Prefectural Road, which runs through the Makino Pick-Land Agricultural Park. The trees blend in with the Nosaka Mountains in the distance, creating a plateau-like landscape as the approach road to the Makino Plateau.
This row of trees was originally planted by the Makino Town Fruit Producers Association in 56 as part of the "Learning from Makino Soil" school farm development project, but was cherished and nurtured by local people, including association members, and later planted in cooperation with the prefectural road, and the length was extended, resulting in the majestic appearance we see today. Metasequoia is a deciduous tall tree of the Metasequoia genus of the Cypress family native to China, and its Japanese name is Akebonosugi. It is named Meta (deformed) Sequoia because of its resemblance to the Sequoia, which is said to reach a maximum height of 115m. It attracts visitors in every season, with the budding and new greenery of spring, the deep green of summer, the autumn leaves, and the bare trees and snowflakes of winter. In 6, it was selected as one of the "XNUMX New Japanese Roadside Trees" by the Yomiuri Shimbun, and has attracted attention.
