During the Manyo period, the area around Otome-ga-ike Pond, known as the "Sea of Katori," was an inlet of Lake Biwa all the way to the foot of the mountain. Later, it was the outer moat of Omizo Castle, where Emi Oshikatsu failed in his uprising, was captured in Miozaki, Takashima County, and executed at "Katsuno no Onie." It is also said that Mio Castle, which is said to have fallen during the Jinshin War, was located in the mountains behind the area, and the lake surface is filled with a sense of romance, with many hidden histories.
