The Harie area of Shinasahi-cho was the setting for the video poem "Satoyama: Life-Changing Waterside," which was filmed by Satoyama photographer Mitsuhiko Imamori and aired on NHK Hi-Vision Special in January 2004. The clean spring water in the area is called "Shozu" by the local residents, and they have treasured it since ancient times. The waterway that runs through the village and the system that uses that water for daily life are called "Kabata" (riverside). Many people from all over Japan and abroad now come to visit the area to experience this water culture, beautiful scenery, and interaction with the local people. The Harie Shozu no Sato Committee is holding a Kabata tour to give visitors an opportunity to reexamine their modern lifestyles while experiencing the rich nature around Lake Biwa, life on the waterside, and the local people.
