Kaizu Osaki's cherry blossoms have been selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." From old cherry trees well over 80 years old to young trees to be handed down to the next generation, about 800 gorgeous Somei-yoshino cherry trees stretch for about 4km along the shores of Lake Biwa. In recent years, the best viewing time is around early April (varies depending on the weather, etc.), and it is known as a famous late-blooming cherry blossom spot in the Kinki region. Kaizu Osaki is also a scenic spot known as "Dawn Mist - Kaizu Osaki Reefs," one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa. The exquisite contrast of Lake Biwa's best reefs, the blue lake, and the distant Chikubu Island is beautiful no matter how many times you see it, and the area is crowded with many cherry blossom viewers every year. In order to pass on this beautiful scenery to future generations, the local "Beautiful Makino Sakura Guardian Association" is taking the lead in conservation activities.

Cherry blossoms of Kaizu Osaki
Kaizu, Makino Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture
About the flowering period
They usually bloom in early April and reach full bloom 4-5 days after first blooming, but this can vary depending on the weather and other factors. Please note that they are usually about a week later than in Kyoto City and about 6 days later than in Hikone City. Also, since the "Kiyomizu Cherry Blossoms" are Edohiganzakura, they often reach full bloom about 1-3 days earlier than the cherry blossoms in Kaizu Osaki. Please also refer to private weather forecasts (WeatherNews, etc.) for flowering forecasts.
