Warazono Shrine

  Within the shrine grounds there is a large stone sculpture of a catfish, as well as catfish votive plaques and disaster prevention amulets.
  One theory about the catfish worship is that when the temple was flooded due to prolonged rain, a catfish came up onto the beach and was caught, and the flooding subsided, so the catfish was worshiped.
  One theory is that as a result of prayers to exterminate pests, a swarm of catfish appeared and ate all the pests.

Windmill Highway

  In spring, the 6km long road around the lake in Shin-Asahi Town is dyed pink by cherry blossoms. With Lake Biwa in the background, this route allows you to experience the changing nature of spring, and is also popular as a cycling course.

STAGEX Takashima (cafe tour)

  STAGEX Takashima is a leisure facility on the shores of Lake Biwa where you can stay overnight in glamping cabins or tents, and enjoy BBQs in a vast area that can seat 400 guests.
  There is also a cycle cafe on site, so it is also recommended as a place for lunch.

Shinasahi Waterfowl Observation Center

  From the large windows of the center, you can see the calm inlet of Lake Biwa, and when you look through the telescope, you can see the delicate movements of the water birds that have migrated from the north. Walking along the lakeshore course makes you feel even closer to the many birds.
  In addition, the cafe in the center offers a menu that will warm your body and soul, including organic coffee. Why not spend an elegant time sitting on a comfortable sofa and gazing at Lake Biwa, where waterfowl live?
