A course around Lake Biwa and its waterfront landscapes, a "Japan Heritage"

Takashima still retains a cultural landscape where water and human activities coexist in harmony. We will introduce you to a course around the waterfront scenery area that has been designated a Japan Heritage Site.

    Kaizu, Nishihama, and Chiriuchi districts flourished as major port towns, post towns, and fishing villages in the northern part of Lake Biwa. The majestic stonework on the lakeshore creates a unique landscape. Be sure to check out shops such as the long-established funazushi restaurant "Uoji" and the local sake brewery "Takeshima."

    The prefectural road that runs through Makino Pickland Agricultural Park is 2.4km long and is lined with about 500 metasequoia trees, creating a plateau-like landscape as the approach road to Makino Plateau. The road changes appearance with each season, from the budding greenery of spring, to the deep greenery of summer, the autumn leaves of late autumn, and the bare trees and snowflakes of winter, captivating visitors. Shirahige Shrine
