Shirahige Shrine

Koshoji Temple

  It is said that in 1243, when Zen Master Dogen visited Kutsuki, he was so impressed by the scenic beauty of the area that it closely resembled Koshoji Temple in Uji that he encouraged the feudal lord, the Kutsuki clan, to build a temple here. The autumn leaves in the former Shurinji Garden are magnificent, and the garden has been designated a national place of scenic beauty.
